Troubleshooting the Genie Remote | DIRECTV Support
In the unlikely event your Genie Remote stops working, here are few tips that will resolve most remote issues.
First check your batteries with the built-in battery tester. When you push and hold any button on your remote you should see this green light. A solid green light means your batteries are strong. If it blinks quickly, the batteries are just okay. If the green light blinks slowly or not at all, your remote needs new batteries. To replace them, turn the remote over, remove the battery cover and insert two fresh AA batteries.
If your remote works with your DIRECTV equipment but not your TV, your remote may need some programming, but don't worry it's easy. Press the Menu button, then select "Settings & Help", “Settings", “Remote Control", “Program Remote", and then choose "TV". Select the brand of your TV and then you'll be prompted with step by step instructions.
